A Martial Arts School Built for Adults

Gu‑Jin Martial Arts was created with one clear purpose: to give adults in Stockton‑on‑Tees a place to train that feels structured, welcoming, and genuinely practical. No noise. No chaos. No kids’ classes. Just real martial arts taught with clarity, patience, and respect.

Our Stockton classes focus on two highly effective systems — Wing Chun and Escrima — chosen because they work for adults of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels. Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning after years away, you’ll find a friendly environment where progress feels achievable and training feels meaningful.

About the Instructor

My name is Alasdair, and I’ve spent over 40 years studying and teaching martial arts across the UK. Wing Chun Kung Fu was my first martial arts passion, and it shaped the foundation of how I teach today. Over the years I’ve taught people from all walks of life — door supervisors, other martial arts instructors, soldiers, and police officers — as well as complete beginners who simply wanted to feel more confident and capable.

I later trained Judo for 13 years, earning my competitive 1st Dan black belt and coaching as an Assistant Instructor. More recently, I began training and teaching the Filipino martial art of Escrima, under the guidance of Escrima Concepts Grandmaster Steve Tappin and his son Master Wayne Tappin.

My background blends:

Wing Chun

A close‑quarter, principle‑based martial art that builds efficient, adaptable self‑defence through relaxed structure, tactile sensitivity, and direct, practical application rooted in the modern Yip Man lineage.

Escrima Concepts

A principle‑driven Filipino martial art that teaches adaptable weapon and empty‑hand skills through timing, distance, and practical, reality‑based application.

I teach with a focused, supportive approach that helps adults develop skill and confidence without unnecessary pressure. My aim is to build your capability and resilience — physically, mentally, and in everyday life. Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning to training after years away, you’ll find a calm, structured environment where progress feels achievable and training feels meaningful.
